Kate & John (Engagement)

I'm not photographing Kate and John's wedding, so I was so excited about the chance to take their engagement pictures. Kate has been a great roomate/friend to my sis-in-law Nat for years now, and now she is marrying an incredible guy named John.
John submitted their story to our recent engagement shoot contest in NYC (on Snippet & Ink) and didn't win. I loved his submission though and want to share it here:
"Our relationship started out as a love-struck bloke’s worst nightmare, in the “FRIEND ZONE.” Three years ago I attempted (and epically failed) to get out of the friend zone when I asked Kate to be my girlfriend. I recognized that we would’ve been a mismatched pair—I’m an endearing Englishman with hipster style, crazy friends, and a flatulent dog. Kate, on the other hand, is a charming Southern belle. She’s petite, quick-witted, and effortlessly put-together. Everyone loves her, but I fell head over heels.
I spent the last three years wooing Kate with my English charm. I was determined for her to recognize the chemistry between us, hoping she’d accept my offer to be her other half. It wasn’t until I headed for the bright lights of New York City and Kate went off to Italy with friends, that my aspirations to win her love became a realization.
I was in New York for New Year’s Eve at a My Morning Jacket show while Kate was spending the holidays in Italy with friends. When I returned home, she was sitting on my front porch swing, waiting to confess what I had known for years. So as you can see, New York holds a special place in our hearts.
Six months ago, I asked Kate to be my girlfriend, and a month ago she accepted my proposal for marriage. We would love to share our engagement by telling our story through photographs about the city that made our hearts grow fonder, New York."
While we didn't get to do the shoot in NYC, I thought that effort was enough to land them a shoot in our hometown of Birmingham.
Here are my faves. Kate and John, you rock.

Converse All Star (LOMO)

Detail from a recent engagement shoot. More to come from this shoot tomorrow!
Nathan & Jas

A few weeks ago I had the honor of photographing my brother Craig's kids at a park in Atlanta!
So much life and vibrance in these two boys. Such a fun shoot.
Geek Notes:
I shot primarily Rollei, but broke out the LOMO and grabbed some in color. I typically reserve it for only black and white film as I have a hard time with my color being underexposed in the LOMO. I set my ISO reading at 100 (shooting 400 speed film) for these and the images came out nice and saturated. I may try this again soon.
Enjoy!

I got Kari (Craig's wife) to pose with the boys in a few towards the end of the session!
Renee and Bob
Here are my favorite images from Renee and Bob's incredible wedding in Charlottesville, VA. Bob is the founder and CEO of GoDaddy.com and he sure knows how to throw a party! The event was designed beautifully by Kristin Newman and her staff. The wedding had several details including two incredible cakes designed by the Ace of Cakes crew, that wowed the intimate group of family and friends. I loved being part of this event! Enjoy!
